More about this cheese
History & producer
Rogue Creamery, Central Point, Oregon Created in 2002, this seasonal wheel is Rogue Creamery’s signature blue, wrapped in local Syrah grape leaves soaked in pear spirits. In 2019 it became the first American cheese named World Champion at the World Cheese Awards.
At the cheese counter
“Rogue River is a special-occasion blue—fruit-soaked leaves and long aging create remarkable complexity.”
In the kitchen
MELTING: Good, but best enjoyed at room temperature so its delicate fruit and spice are not lost. GRATING: Fair – crumble gently; remove the grape leaves first. SHAVING: Fair – remove the grape leaves, chill, and shave gently; crumbling preserves it best.
